How To Eat Wheat Grass
Lately, I have been asked by a number of people why we can’t just eat wheatgrass. There are a few reasons why humans can’t digest grass and certain animals like cows and horses can.
One reason is that our stomach and intestines are set up differently than ruminants (grass eating animals). Cows first chew the grass, then swallow it. It goes into their first stomach which begins to break it down. The semi-digested grass comes back up to the mouth, and the cow chews it some more. After a while, the cow swallows the grass again.
Most likely you can eat wheat grass. Wheat allergies are usually a reaction to the gluten found in the wheat berry. Wheat grass is a vegetable, cut before the wheat plant forms the grain (berry). These green grasses are very fibrous, you can’t eat them straight off unless you’re a cow. It is best to take them on an empty stomach perhaps half an hour before you eat or two hours after you eat. The three main ways to take them are : Powder Form - 1 to 2 teaspoons a day mixed in juice or water (cold or slightly warm)or sprinkled on your cereal.
